Strategy - The Energy Band
The thirst is always on for a sizzling live stage show band and artist. There is never a long and hard look in the Caribbean with one of the liveliest bands, Strategy the Band locking down the urban market.
Since its inception the band has grown from strength to strength with award nominations and touring dates and performances throughout 2006 and early 2007 with headline superstar acts and personalities.
In November 2004, determined to satisfy the needs of a market thirsting for quality live entertainment from a versatile band catering to the appetites of both the native West Indian crowd and the World at large, Strategy the Band was formed. Encompassing the genres of hip hop, R&B, Soca, Alternative, Dancehall and Reggae, and with a "new releases" to "back in time" range, the "strategy" is quite simply - to transcend the traditional audience segmentation, which has been to the detriment of so many Caribbean bands. Strategy's repertoire includes both contemporary covers and hot originals penned by the band's members, Tejay, Kirk Brown and Justin King.
Running like hot molten lava and mere months after their inception, Strategy the band became a regular fixture on the nightclub scene in their homeland, Barbados and have erupted onto the Caribbean scene with touring and performances in England, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Trinidad and Jamaica subscribing to their theory that the world is its oyster. Recognized for their undeniable talent and professionalism, Strategy the band has backed and shared the stage with varied super star acts including Fat Joe, Dru Hill, Julissa Bermudez of BET 106 & Park and platinum R&B sensation Ne-Yo.
2006 proved to be a big year for the band with award nominations, touring and the release of their original musical recordings. In January 2006 the band was nominated for Band of the Year at the Barbados Music Awards, an event held under the patronage of Barbados' Prime Minister, and featuring major headliners including Rihanna, Alison Hinds, Rupee, and Krosfyah. Later that year, they were a featured act at the Brooklyn Fashion Weekend, which was attended by A-list stars in the world of music, film and fashion, and major international media including MTV and BET among many others. The band also completed a successful UK promotional tour which spanned clubs from London to Leeds Carnival in the North, an experience that afforded the band a presence in the British market, opening doors for the band to return in the near future. Determined to build and maintain momentum, the 'strategy' soon changed, with the emphasis on the solo recording careers of the lead artists. Kirk Brown’s album “Must Get It” and Tejay’s “Summer Kisses” launched simultaneously on February 7th 2008 at The Ship Inn with full attendance by the media, fans, locals as well as tourists. Since the albums’ launch, the band’s momentum and drive has not faded in their efforts to get their music out there. Kirk Brown has since performed in Jamaica, creating a name for himself as well as Strategy, and making his presence felt locally as he recently performed at the Easter Fever show in March with the likes of Jamaican artists Demarco, Natural Black and Busy Signal; while in April, he graced the stage with the much anticipated female duo from Jamaica, Brick and Lace. New comer to the band Justin King has quickly adapted to the ‘strategy’, as he has quickly settled in and is currently working on some originals.
Most recently, the band shared the stage alongside Tessanne Chin, Wayne Wonder, T.O.K and Baby Cham, for an energetic high calibre performance at the Digicel Reggae Festival, where they thoroughly rocked thousands of fans. Stay tuned, for the ascension has just begun!
